Where to get content for the game?
When you're developing a game, you don't always have time to create individual elements. What kind of elements? Well, for example, models or sounds. And just for such cases there are asset libraries from which you can take the necessary content. Usually there are both free and paid assets.
But it is important to keep in mind that assets have different terms of use. For example, some may have no restrictions at all, while others may require you to cite the author. So always read the terms and conditions if you want to use someone else's development in your game.
We prepared this article to show you where you can find free assets.
And if there's anything you don't like, don't hesitate to contact us! On our site there is a huge library of content that includes not only various 3D and 2D assets, but also all sorts of add-ons for programs that you are sure to use in one way or another when developing your games.
And you'll also find complete guides explaining how to use the downloaded content in your applications and create your dream game overnight.
Unity Asset Store
The Unity Asset Store is a giant in a world of giants. We just couldn't help but start our list with it, and certainly not add to it. Basically, it's an internal store where developers make free and paid assets available to the public.
Models, sounds, textures, materials or scripts can be packaged in the .unitypackage format and shared with other developers or posted to the store. The Unity engine supports most popular file formats.
And virtually all assemblies can be used in another engine or 3D package!
But the thing is that most of the content here is paid. Unlike our site, where you can also find materials for Unity project, but you can do it all for free. At your service are collections of the best assets: 3D models, templates, textures and shaders, animations, tools, VFX effects, audio and music, particles and much more. Free download here.
Unreal Engine Marketplace
Speaking of Unity Asset Store, we can't forget to mention its direct competitor - Unreal Engine Marketplace.
Unreal Engine Marketplace is the asset store of Epic Games. Here you can find file structures, code, artwork, complete maps, audio and any other content. Non-Epic Games assets can be used in other engines unless otherwise noted.
Free assets can be found in the Free section. You can also download a huge amount of content for UE4/5 in our library.
Sketchfab
Sketchfab is a huge library of different models. There are both free and paid examples. A local killer feature is access to the preview feature, which allows you to quickly familiarize yourself with what you're about to download or buy.
Subreddits
On Reddit you can find subreddits dedicated to game development, and there is already a lot of content published there. Despite the clumsy filtering mechanism, this place can help you a lot. What you find there, you probably won't find anywhere else.
Open Game Art
One of the oldest asset sites. Here you can find textures, 3D models, sprites, music and sound effects. Each asset page has a link to its distribution policy, and new assets are added daily.
Game icons
Game icons is a site for finding icons and game interface elements. Among the almost huge number of images (there are more than 5 thousand of them on the site) there are icons for every setting. It is worth noting that all icons here are in white color. If you want, you can paint them in any other color.
